in force for the time being and to the General Orders issued from time to time by the Government of Hongkong. A copy of the latest edition of the Colonial Regula-

tions is enclosed. The appointment is under the Colonial Government and your emoluments will be paid

solely from the funds of the Colony.

5. If you are prepared to socent the appointment

on these conditions, you should take an early

opportunity of presenting yourself to the Dedical

Adviser whose næse is given on the enclosed letter, for the purpose of being medically examined, and he will send his report direct to this Department. The fes will be paid by the Crown Agents for the Colonies and if it

should be necessary for you to travel by rail_for_ the purpose of the examination your thiru_class_return_ fars will be refunded to you on your infoming this

Departsant of the amount.

6. If finally selected for the appointment, you will be provided with ■ free first class massage to Hongkong by a steamer other than a mail steamer, subject to an undertaking; to repay its cost in the event of your loving the service of the Government within three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony for any other reason than mental or physical infirmity. You will be required to enter into an agree» ment to this effoot with the Crown Agents for the Colonies and to find one surety for its due performance. In the alternative, if you prefer not to provide a surety, a deduction of 15% will be made from your

salary
